TOBA TEK SINGH: Heavy monsoon rains have damaged numerous graves at the historic Gau Shala Cemetery in Toba Tek Singh, prompting concern among residents and calls for immediate restoration and improved drainage.
According to local residents, continuous rainfall and water accumulation have caused soil to wash away from many graves, while several have partially subsided due to saturated ground conditions. They said urgent repairs are needed to prevent further damage.
Residents have appealed to the public to visit the graves of their parents, relatives and loved ones to assess their condition and, where necessary, restore them by adding soil. They also encouraged citizens to help repair neglected or unclaimed graves as an act of charity and respect for the deceased.
The residents urged the Toba Tek Singh Municipal Committee and the cemetery administration to provide sufficient soil at the site so that families can easily carry out repair work. They said the shortage of soil has made it difficult for visitors to restore damaged graves.
They also called on the district administration to conduct an immediate survey of low-lying sections of the cemetery, improve the drainage system and launch emergency restoration work to protect graves from further damage during the ongoing monsoon season.
Residents expressed hope that the relevant authorities would treat the matter as a priority, stressing that preserving the dignity of burial sites is both a moral and social responsibility.
