ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) hosted Anita Hirsch, Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan, at its headquarters to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in disaster risk management, emergency preparedness and humanitarian response.
The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to review ongoing collaboration and explore new avenues for enhancing resilience through anticipatory action, early warning systems and coordinated disaster response mechanisms aimed at protecting vulnerable communities across Pakistan.
During the visit, the WFP delegation received a comprehensive briefing on the capabilities of the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), including its state-of-the-art multi-hazard monitoring systems, early warning technologies and technology-driven initiatives designed to improve disaster preparedness and emergency response.
NDMA highlighted its ongoing efforts to strengthen national disaster management through advanced forecasting, risk assessment and integrated coordination among federal and provincial stakeholders.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening collaboration in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian assistance and climate resilience, emphasizing the importance of innovation and coordinated action in addressing increasingly complex disaster risks.
NDMA appreciated its longstanding partnership with the World Food Programme and expressed confidence that continued cooperation would further strengthen Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and resilience efforts.
