RAWALPINDI, Aug. 3: Torrential monsoon rain inundated several low-lying areas of Rawalpindi on Tuesday, causing widespread waterlogging and disrupting traffic in different parts of the city.
One of the most striking incidents occurred on the main road in Dhok Khaba, where an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient to a hospital became stranded after entering a heavily flooded stretch of road. Rising rainwater submerged nearly half of the vehicle, bringing it to a halt.
Eyewitnesses said a group of children, who had been playing in the accumulated rainwater nearby, rushed to assist and tried to push the ambulance out of the flooded section of the road so it could continue its journey.
The incident highlights the challenges posed by urban flooding during the ongoing monsoon season and underscores the urgent need for improved drainage infrastructure in vulnerable areas of the city.
Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to avoid driving through waterlogged roads during heavy rainfall and advised residents to follow weather advisories and emergency instructions to minimize risks.
