KARACHI, Aug. 3: At least seven people lost their lives and two others were injured in separate rain-related incidents across Sindh’s Tharparkar and Umerkot districts as heavy monsoon rains continued to lash the province, prompting authorities to intensify rescue and relief efforts.
According to local officials, six fatalities were reported in Tharparkar, where three people were killed after being struck by lightning during thunderstorms.
Another person drowned in accumulated rainwater, while two others died after falling into water-filled pits created by the recent heavy rainfall.
In neighbouring Umerkot district, one person drowned in a rain-related incident, while two individuals sustained injuries in separate accidents. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment, officials said.
Rescue and relief teams remained active in the affected areas, while district authorities continued monitoring the situation amid forecasts of more rainfall. Officials warned that additional downpours could heighten the risk of flooding and other rain-related emergencies, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
Residents have been urged to exercise extreme caution during heavy rainfall, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rainwater drains, stormwater channels, open pits, and flooded areas that may pose serious safety hazards due to poor visibility and strong water currents.
Authorities also appealed to the public to remain updated with official weather advisories and cooperate with emergency response teams to help minimize the risk of further casualties during the ongoing monsoon season.
