BEIJING: Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has honoured a leading Chinese engineering technology company for its contributions to infrastructure disaster prevention and bilateral scientific cooperation during the 2026 China-Pakistan Bilateral Strategic Seminar held at Southeast University in Nanjing.
The seminar focused on the China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures, a national-level platform for scientific and technological cooperation approved by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology. The joint laboratory promotes collaborative research, technology transfer, talent development and innovation to enhance infrastructure safety and disaster resilience under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the Belt and Road Initiative.
During the event, Muhammad Tanveer Piracha, Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under the NDMA, presented the NDMA Medal to Li Jinbao, Chairman of Jiangsu Southeast Special Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd., in recognition of the company’s longstanding support for Pakistan-China cooperation in disaster risk reduction and infrastructure resilience.
The company, a co-organiser of the seminar and a founding member of the joint laboratory, was recognised for strengthening Pakistan’s disaster management system and promoting bilateral scientific and technological collaboration.
According to participants, the company has worked closely with academic institutions to develop advanced technologies, including multi-source data fusion settlement monitoring and coordinated settlement energy flow regulation. These innovations address key engineering challenges such as uneven settlement in high-rise buildings and improving the seismic resilience of residential structures.
Several of these technologies have already been applied in infrastructure disaster prevention and rehabilitation projects in both China and Pakistan, demonstrating practical benefits in enhancing the safety and resilience of critical infrastructure.
The company has also established a dedicated research fund to support the development of cutting-edge disaster prevention technologies for China-Pakistan infrastructure projects.
In 2025, under the coordination of the joint laboratory, the company organised several research and technical exchange visits to Pakistan, engaging with universities, research institutions and infrastructure project sites to strengthen long-term scientific collaboration and technology exchange between the two countries.
