ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) reviewed its enforcement performance during a high-level meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Uzair Khan, highlighting extensive inspections and strict action against food safety violations across the capital.
Officials informed the meeting that the authority’s four inspection teams conducted 625 inspections across Islamabad during the past 10 days.
During the drive, the teams issued 387 improvement notices and four verbal warnings, while imposing fines of Rs1.203 million on 59 food businesses for various violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.
The authority also sealed 14 food outlets over serious breaches of hygiene standards, registered one criminal case, and disposed of 3,557 kilograms of unsafe and substandard food.
Officials further briefed the meeting that enforcement teams responded to 14 public complaints, taking prompt action against the reported violations.
Addressing the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Uzair Khan directed officials to ensure immediate action on public complaints and stressed that inspections should be carried out without discrimination against any restaurant or food business.
He also instructed inspection teams to strictly follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), including the collection of food samples during inspections, to strengthen enforcement and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
Uzair Khan reiterated that violations of food safety standards would not be tolerated under any circumstances, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to protecting public health and ensuring the availability of safe food for consumers in Islamabad.
