RAWALPINDI: The Department of Anthropology at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), in collaboration with the Punjab Forest Department and the Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) Centre, organised a Green Campus Initiative to promote environmental sustainability and expand green spaces on the university campus.
The initiative featured a tree plantation activity aimed at encouraging collective environmental responsibility and creating a greener, healthier and more sustainable campus environment.
The plantation ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Sarwet Rasool, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences; Iftikhar Farooqi, Chief Conservator of Forests; Dr Syed Mahmood Nasir, former Inspector General of Forests, Punjab; and Irshad Ramay, CEO, RECP, along with faculty members, staff and students.

The participation of senior forestry officials, environmental experts, university representatives and students highlighted the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and environmental organisations in promoting sustainable practices.
The Green Campus Initiative also provided an opportunity to engage students and the university community in practical environmental action, reinforcing the message that tree plantation and the protection of green spaces are shared responsibilities.
Following the plantation ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sarwet Rasool presented souvenirs to the distinguished guests on behalf of the Vice Chancellor in recognition of their participation and support for the initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shafia Azam, Chairperson, Department of Anthropology, expressed gratitude to the Punjab Forest Department, RECP Centre, university administration, faculty members, staff and students for their cooperation in making the initiative successful.
The organisers said the Green Campus Initiative reflects FJWU’s commitment to environmental awareness and sustainable development while encouraging students to play an active role in building a greener future.
The initiative concluded with a renewed call for collective action to protect the environment and expand green spaces, with the message: “Plant today for a greener tomorrow.”
