ISLAMABAD, Aug. 3: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Dr. Musadik Malik and Governor of Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi have agreed to launch an Urban Forest Green Initiative in Sindh to enhance urban green spaces and strengthen climate resilience across the province.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Islamabad, where the two leaders discussed Sindh’s environmental challenges, climate action, and measures to improve environmental sustainability.
Governor Nihal Hashmi appreciated the federal minister’s efforts to promote environmental protection and climate resilience, while both sides agreed to work together on expanding afforestation initiatives in urban areas.
During the meeting, Dr. Musadik Malik announced that a province-wide tree plantation campaign would be launched in Sindh on the occasion of Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14) as part of the government’s efforts to increase green cover and combat the impacts of climate change.
The federal minister also endorsed a proposal, in consultation with the Ministry of Railways, to establish urban forests along railway corridors in Sindh. The initiative is aimed at improving the urban environment, enhancing biodiversity, and contributing to carbon sequestration.
Governor Nihal Hashmi invited the federal minister to visit Governor House Karachi and address students on environmental awareness and climate responsibility. Dr. Musadik Malik accepted the invitation and expressed his commitment to engaging young people in climate action and environmental conservation.
The meeting also included discussions on the country’s overall political situation, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of political harmony, stability, and national unity. They agreed that Pakistan cannot afford political polarization and stressed the need for collective efforts to address national challenges.
Dr. Musadik Malik also paid tribute to Governor Nihal Hashmi’s political struggle and public service, describing him as “our hero” and acknowledging his longstanding contributions to the country.
