ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran, led by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, visited the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Headquarters in Islamabad to explore opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation in disaster risk management and emergency response.
The Iranian delegation was accompanied by Pakistan’s Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghadam.
During the visit, NDMA officials presented a comprehensive overview of the capabilities of the National Emergencies Operations Centre and highlighted Pakistan’s transformation towards a proactive disaster risk management system aimed at reducing the impact of recurring natural disasters.
Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik briefed the delegation on the authority’s initiatives for regional cooperation and its vision for a next-generation disaster risk reduction framework. He outlined the integration of advanced technologies to strengthen disaster early warning systems, improve emergency preparedness and enhance coordinated response among emergency responders and resource providers.
The delegation was also informed about NDMA’s coordination with national leadership, provincial governments, humanitarian organizations, academic institutions and international partners to improve disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
Officials highlighted the authority’s focus on localized risk communication, anticipatory action planning, national resource mobilization and international coordination to ensure timely humanitarian assistance during emergencies.
As part of the visit, the delegation was given a demonstration of “Disaster Lens 2026”, a disaster monitoring and situational awareness platform, along with a presentation on the Comprehensive International Simulation Exercises (CISE) conducted by the NDMA to strengthen emergency preparedness.
The Iranian delegation praised Pakistan’s progress in disaster risk management and acknowledged the NDMA’s advanced operational capabilities.
Speaking during the interaction, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni commended the NDMA’s remarkable transformation in disaster preparedness and expressed Iran’s interest in learning from Pakistan’s experience, particularly in early warning systems, anticipatory disaster management, institutional coordination and the use of advanced technologies for disaster risk reduction.
He said enhanced cooperation and knowledge sharing between the two neighbouring countries would strengthen regional resilience against natural hazards and climate-induced disasters.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding institutional cooperation and enhancing collaboration to address the growing challenges posed by climate change and increasingly complex disaster risks.
