TOBA TEK SINGH: The district administration has stepped up monsoon preparedness efforts to ensure the prompt drainage of rainwater and provide maximum relief to residents in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s public welfare vision.
Deputy Commissioner Maham Asif Malik, accompanied by WASA Managing Director Chaudhry Kamran, visited various parts of the city, including major roads, underpasses, key intersections, disposal stations and other vulnerable locations to review drainage arrangements and monitor ongoing operations.
During the inspection, the deputy commissioner reviewed dewatering operations, sewerage line cleaning, the performance of disposal stations, the operational readiness of heavy machinery and the deployment of field teams.
She directed officials to ensure that no rainwater remains accumulated in any part of the city during the monsoon season and instructed them to respond promptly to public complaints to minimise inconvenience for commuters and residents.
Maham Asif Malik said providing safe and efficient civic services remains the district administration’s top priority. She stressed the need for close coordination among WASA, municipal authorities and other relevant departments, directing all field teams to remain on high alert and respond immediately to any emergency.
She warned that negligence in drainage operations would not be tolerated.
Briefing the deputy commissioner, WASA Managing Director Chaudhry Kamran said all machinery was fully operational, while dewatering pumps, disposal stations and field staff were working round the clock to ensure swift removal of rainwater from critical locations.
He added that special teams had been deployed at vulnerable points across the city to maintain smooth traffic flow and minimise disruption to daily life. He also said WASA’s control room was operating 24/7 and responding promptly to public complaints.
The deputy commissioner appreciated WASA’s performance and instructed authorities to maintain a special focus on low-lying areas, underpasses, major roads, markets and other sensitive locations. She also directed officials to continue cleaning sewerage lines and regularly review preparedness measures before and after rainfall.
At the conclusion of the visit, Maham Asif Malik reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to ensuring effective drainage, uninterrupted municipal services and timely relief for citizens throughout the monsoon season. She also urged residents to avoid disposing of waste into sewerage lines, follow safety precautions during heavy rainfall and immediately report emergencies or drainage issues to the relevant authorities.
