LAHORE, Aug. 3: Pak Mission Society (PMS), in collaboration with the Punjab Climate Action Network (PCAN), has officially launched its Advocacy and Lobbying Campaign under the Child-Driven Climate Action (CDCA) Project with a high-level meeting held with Kanwal Liaquat, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment and Forest, Government of Punjab.
During the meeting, a delegation comprising members of the PCAN Subgroup and the PMS team presented the Child Climate Charter of Demands, a policy document developed from recommendations put forward by members of Green Clubs working with children and young people on climate action.
The Charter outlines Five Child Climate Demands, calling for stronger climate education, meaningful participation of children and youth in climate decision-making, inclusive climate governance, greater recognition of children’s rights in climate policies, and increased investment in youth-focused climate financing.
The delegation highlighted the importance of integrating children’s voices into climate policymaking, emphasizing that young people are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and should be actively involved in shaping solutions.
Kanwal Liaquat welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of Pak Mission Society and the Punjab Climate Action Network in promoting child-centered climate advocacy. She assured the delegation that the Charter would be reviewed in detail and shared with fellow legislators for further consideration.
The meeting marked the beginning of a broader advocacy campaign aimed at engaging policymakers, legislators, and other stakeholders to advance the Five Child Climate Demands and strengthen child and youth participation in climate governance across Punjab.
The Child-Driven Climate Action (CDCA) Project seeks to empower children and young people to play an active role in climate action by ensuring that their perspectives are reflected in environmental policies and development planning.
