LAHORE: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has intensified preparations for the upcoming smog season by strengthening the operational capacity and enforcement readiness of its field teams.
Additional Director General Operations EPA Punjab, Dr. Zafar Iqbal, delivered a focused lecture on field operational preparedness for the prevention and control of seasonal smog at the Water Management Training Institute Punjab.
The session was attended by EPA field inspectors and focused on practical strategies to improve field operations, strengthen enforcement and ensure a coordinated response to air pollution during the upcoming smog season.
Dr. Zafar Iqbal highlighted the importance of timely inspections, effective implementation of environmental regulations and coordinated action among relevant field teams to identify and address sources of air pollution.
The training also emphasized the need for field officers to remain prepared for increased pollution levels and respond effectively to violations contributing to deteriorating air quality.
EPA Punjab has been expanding its pre-smog preparations, including inspections of industrial units, brick kilns and other potential pollution sources, as the province approaches the period traditionally associated with hazardous smog and deteriorating air quality.
The agency said that strengthening the skills and operational preparedness of field inspectors would help ensure more effective enforcement and faster action against activities contributing to seasonal air pollution.
The initiative reflects Punjab’s broader efforts to improve air-quality management through stronger field monitoring, regulatory enforcement and inter-agency coordination.
