TOBA TEK SINGH: A Numberdars Convention was held under the chairpersonship of Assistant Commissioner Toba Tek Singh Muhammad Shafiq Dogar to raise awareness about anti-smog measures, discourage crop-residue burning and encourage maximum wheat cultivation during the upcoming season.
Numberdars from across the tehsil attended the convention, where officials provided detailed briefings on compliance with anti-smog standard operating procedures (SOPs), prevention of crop-residue burning and measures to increase the area under wheat cultivation.
Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Shafiq Dogar said cooperation among government departments, farmers, numberdars and local representatives was essential to reduce smog and air pollution.
He urged numberdars to actively guide farmers in their respective areas to avoid burning crop residues, follow anti-smog SOPs and adopt environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
The Assistant Commissioner said burning crop residues contributes to air pollution and warned that violations of government instructions could lead to action under relevant laws.
The meeting also focused on increasing wheat production. Numberdars were asked to remain in regular contact with farmers and encourage them to increase the area under wheat cultivation.
Officials said timely sowing, quality seeds, modern farming practices and following recommendations from the Agriculture Department could help improve wheat production.
The convention also highlighted the role of numberdars as an important link between the administration and rural communities. They were encouraged to communicate government initiatives related to environmental protection, public welfare and agricultural development to farmers.
Relevant officials briefed participants on anti-smog SOPs, alternatives to crop-residue burning, wheat cultivation, modern agricultural practices and ways to provide better guidance to farmers.
Muhammad Shafiq Dogar said all available resources would be utilised to achieve the targets for anti-smog measures and increased wheat cultivation in accordance with the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Toba Tek Singh.
The initiative highlights the importance of coordinated action between farmers, local representatives and government departments in reducing air pollution while promoting more sustainable and productive agricultural practices.
