MIRPURKHAS: A public forum in Mirpurkhas has called for greater investment in local renewable energy and affordable electric mobility to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported fuels and strengthen energy security.
The forum, titled “Breaking Free from Imported Fuel: Ensuring Energy Security and Clean Mobility,” was organised by Advocacy, Research, Training and Services (ARTS) Foundation with the support of Indus Consortium under the Grow Green Network.
The event brought together representatives from civil society, businesses, youth, academia, media and the renewable energy sector to discuss Pakistan’s energy challenges and possible pathways towards cleaner and more locally sourced energy.
Participants called for concessional financing facilities for electric vehicles to make clean mobility more accessible to consumers. They also urged a gradual transition away from imported RLNG-based power towards greater use of locally available renewable energy resources.
The forum highlighted the potential of solar and wind power, battery storage and modernised electricity grids to strengthen the country’s energy system while reducing reliance on imported fuels.
Speakers also stressed that investment in clean energy and electric mobility could support efforts to reduce emissions and air pollution while contributing to long-term energy security.
The discussions underscored the need for coordinated action by policymakers, financial institutions, businesses, civil society and communities to accelerate the development of a cleaner and more resilient energy system.
The forum concluded with a call for policies and financing mechanisms that can support local renewable energy, energy storage and clean transportation as part of Pakistan’s transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
