MIANWALI: The Punjab Environmental Protection Department has taken action against brick kilns and a stone crusher for violating anti-smog environmental regulations during inspections in Mianwali.
The operation was carried out on the special directions of Punjab Environmental Protection Department Director General Abdullah Niazi Sheikh and Deputy Commissioner Shahid Abbas Kathia, as part of the Punjab government’s anti-smog efforts.
A team led by Assistant Director Environment Mianwali Muhammad Arshad Chughtai inspected brick kilns and stone crushers in areas around the district.
During the inspection, two brick-kiln fillings were demolished on the spot for violating prescribed environmental SOPs. The owners of the two kilns were also fined a total of Rs200,000 for violations related to zigzag technology.
The environmental team also inspected several stone crushers and sealed one unit after finding it was contributing to air pollution.
The team further inspected flour mills and a fertiliser factory to review pollution-control equipment and assess measures being used to control environmental emissions.
The field team included Senior Inspector Rehmatullah Khan, Muhammad Imran Ali, Field Assistant Muhammad Akram and Naik Zaman.
The enforcement drive highlights the importance of effective pollution control at brick kilns and industrial units, particularly ahead of periods when poor air quality and smog can pose serious risks to public health and the environment.
