Dozens of monkeys have escaped from a research lab in the United States. According to foreign media, 43 monkeys fled from the Alpha Genesis facility in Beaufort County, South Carolina, prompting authorities to warn the local population.
The escaped monkeys belong to the rhesus macaque species, which were confined in the lab’s cages for research purposes. The administration stated that the research lab housed a group of 50 monkeys, but 43 managed to escape due to an open cage door, while 7 remain inside.
The authorities confirmed that all the escaped monkeys were females, and due to their young age and weight of 3.2 kg, they had not been used for research or testing. The administration has advised citizens to stay alert and keep doors and windows closed, while thermal cameras are being set up to locate the monkeys.
