ISLAMABAD: The water level at Rawal Dam has risen following torrential rainfall in Islamabad and surrounding areas, prompting the district administration to announce the opening of the dam’s spillways.
According to the Islamabad District Administration, the water level at Rawal Dam has reached 1,751.90 feet.
In view of the rising water level, the spillways will be opened at 2:00pm today, September 1, to manage the increased inflow into the reservoir.
Rescue 1122, police and other relevant departments have been directed to remain on high alert during the opening of the spillways. All concerned agencies have also been instructed to take necessary precautionary and safety measures before the release of water.
The district administration has urged citizens to stay away from rivers, streams, drains and low-lying areas, particularly during the spillway operation.
Residents and visitors have been advised to follow official safety instructions and avoid unnecessary movement near waterways.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with emergency response agencies to minimize risks and ensure public safety.
