ISLAMABAD: Torrential rainfall in different parts of the federal capital has prompted intensified emergency response and drainage operations under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon.
The Deputy Commissioner visited several rain-affected areas to inspect drainage arrangements and review ongoing relief and response activities. Officials said complaints regarding water accumulation in low-lying areas were addressed immediately, while continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations had already been in place due to the monsoon season.
In E-11, exceptionally heavy rainfall caused water levels in a local drain to exceed its capacity. As a result, water entered a road and the basements of several buildings. The Deputy Commissioner said the affected basements had already been sealed as a precautionary measure.
A separate waterlogging situation was reported in Ghauri Town Phase-II, where a blocked drain caused water to overflow into surrounding areas. According to the Deputy Commissioner, placing slabs over the drain had restricted the flow of water and contributed to the situation.
Water accumulation on major roads also affected traffic movement at some locations. Traffic police, in coordination with the district administration, are working to maintain the flow of traffic and facilitate commuters.
Drainage operations are being carried out on an emergency basis in I-8, Ghauri Town and other affected areas, with relevant departments and heavy machinery deployed in the field.
The Deputy Commissioner said all concerned departments are fully prepared to respond to any potential emergency and are closely monitoring the situation.
No loss of life has been reported so far, according to the district administration.
Citizens have been urged to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall and immediately inform the administration in case of any emergency.
