In China, a woman took over 45 million yuan (approximately 7.5 crore Pakistani rupees) as a fee for agreeing to divorce her husband but later changed her mind. The husband, Han, who had fallen in love with a colleague at his office, received a proposal from the colleague, Shi, to pay 20 million yuan (over 7.5 crore rupees) in exchange for Han’s divorce.
Shi transferred 12 million yuan to the wife, Ying, at the end of 2022, but Ying later refused to proceed with the divorce. After more than a year of trying to convince Ying, Shi filed a lawsuit to reclaim the money. However, the court rejected her request.
The court ruled against Shi’s petition, which claimed that a verbal agreement existed between her and Ying, and ordered no return of the money. Meanwhile, the divorce process between Han and Shi continues, with both going through a “cooling off” period.
