According to a new report, South Korea has become the first country in the world to replace more than 10% of its workforce with robots in the industrial sector.
The World Robotics 2024 annual survey revealed that South Korea now has the highest number of robot employees, with 1,102 robots for every 10,000 workers, making it the country with the most robot workers in the world.
The number of robots in South Korea is more than double the number of robot employees in any other country listed in the report, except for Singapore, where there are 770 robots per 10,000 employees.
The report, presented by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), states that the number of robots in South Korea has increased by 5% since 2018. South Korea’s economy, which is known for its leading electronics and automotive industries, heavily relies on industrial robots, particularly from these two major sectors.
According to researchers, globally, the average number of robots has more than doubled over the last seven years, increasing from 74 robots per 10,000 employees to 162 robots.
In addition to industries, robots are also being employed in various fields across South Korea, from hospitals to restaurants.
