THARPARKAR: The Sindh government and Japanese environmental experts have explored climate-resilient solutions for Tharparkar during a field visit aimed at assessing local climate vulnerabilities and identifying projects that could attract international and bilateral climate finance.
Secretary of the Sindh Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Department Faisal Ahmed Uqaili, along with a delegation from Japan’s Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Pakistani technical experts, visited various areas of Tharparkar.
The delegation assessed climate, environmental, socio-economic and livelihood challenges faced by local communities and explored opportunities to develop practical projects that could be technically sound, investment-ready and eligible for climate finance.
The mission focused on several areas, including water security and resource management, climate-resilient livelihoods, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem and land restoration, renewable energy, indigenous knowledge, nature-based solutions and community-based climate resilience.
During the visit, the delegation also engaged with local stakeholders to understand community needs and identify possible interventions that could strengthen resilience to climate-related risks.
The visit is part of the Sindh government’s efforts to strengthen climate action and improve readiness for climate finance by converting local climate priorities into practical and potentially financeable project proposals.
The mission also provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among the Sindh government, national institutions and international climate, development and technical partners to mobilise resources for vulnerable communities and areas affected by climate change.
