Petitioner questions frequent fuel price revisions, demands transparency in pricing formula and official records
LAHORE, October 31, 2026 — The government’s policy of changing petroleum product prices on a daily basis has been challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC), with the petitioner demanding greater transparency in the mechanism used to determine fuel rates.
According to ARY News, a petition has been filed against the daily adjustment policy, arguing that frequent changes in petrol and diesel prices are placing an additional burden on consumers.
The petition states that petroleum prices were revised 15 times between October 9 and October 29. It maintains that the government has not provided the public with a clear explanation of the formula used to calculate the prices.
Demand for Transparency
The petitioner argued that citing fluctuations in international oil markets alone was insufficient to justify repeated changes in domestic fuel prices. The government, the petition states, should disclose the relevant figures and explain the methodology used to determine petroleum rates.
The plea emphasises that fuel prices have a direct impact on the economy and household budgets. Frequent adjustments can particularly affect ordinary citizens and low-income groups, who already face financial pressure from rising living costs.
Court Asked to Seek Official Records
The petitioner has requested that the court summon the relevant government records, including documents explaining how petroleum prices are calculated and approved.
The case raises questions about transparency and public accountability in Pakistan’s fuel pricing system. Any further developments will depend on the proceedings and directions issued by the court.
