Pakistan Clarifies Policy on Commercial Imports of Used Vehicles

Five-year age restriction on commercially imported used cars removed from July 1, 2026, while other import policy requirements remain in force

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce has issued an important clarification regarding the commercial import of used vehicles after June 30, 2026, confirming that the five-year age limit for such imports has been abolished with effect from July 1, 2026.

According to the ministry, the clarification was issued in response to a memorandum from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) dated October 23, 2026.

The ministry stated that although the age restriction has been removed, importers must continue to comply with all other applicable import policy requirements and prescribed standards.

The clarification also emphasised that commercially imported used vehicles must meet the environmental and safety standards established by the Engineering Development Board (EDB).

Under a decision approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the federal cabinet in 2022, the commercial import of used vehicles had initially been permitted until June 30, 2026, subject to a condition that the vehicles must not be more than five years old.

The policy framework also provided for the possibility of removing the age restriction after the specified period.

With the age limit no longer applicable from July 1, 2026, commercial imports of used vehicles remain subject to the other relevant policy conditions and mandatory environmental and safety standards.

The clarification outlines the continuation of the commercial used-vehicle import framework following the expiry of the previous age restriction.
