Evidence of Alleged Billions of Rupees in Corruption Emerges Against Sohail Afridi

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Says Records Are Being Collected; Cases May Be Referred to NAB and Anti-Corruption Authorities

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has claimed that evidence of alleged corruption and financial irregularities worth billions of rupees has emerged against former chief minister Sohail Afridi.

The provincial government said Afridi was in protective custody and was being kept in a secure location. It also claimed that arrest warrants had been issued against him, although he had not yet been arrested.

According to the report, the KP government has requested records from various departments as part of its investigation into the alleged financial irregularities. Following the initial inquiry, the cases may be referred to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the provincial Anti-Corruption Establishment for further investigation.

The government also said that alleged irregularities involving the Sehat Card health insurance programme were being examined.

In a separate political development, the KP government claimed that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was unhappy over not being offered a role in the current technocratic government setup.

The allegations against Afridi have yet to be established through a judicial finding. Further details may emerge as the relevant departments review the records and determine whether formal cases should be pursued.
