Islamabad, August 1: The spillways of Rawal Dam were closed on Saturday after the reservoir’s water level returned to the prescribed limit following a controlled release prompted by recent monsoon rainfall, the district administration said.
According to officials, the spillways were opened at 6:00 a.m. under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner Secretariat to regulate the rising water level in the reservoir. They remained open for approximately five and a half hours before being closed once the water level stabilised at the designated level of 1,747 feet.
The district administration said all necessary precautionary measures were taken before the release of water, with comprehensive public safety arrangements remaining in place throughout the operation.
Despite repeated public warnings, authorities arrested one individual for bathing in the nullah while water was being discharged from the dam, officials confirmed.
Personnel from Rescue 1122, Islamabad Police, the district administration, and other relevant departments remained deployed throughout the operation to monitor water flows, enforce safety measures, and protect the public.
Authorities have once again urged citizens to avoid entering nullahs, streams, and other waterways during periods of controlled water releases and heavy monsoon rainfall.
