ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a series of major education initiatives, including the establishment of Nawaz Sharif Schools in every tehsil and the distribution of 100,000 free electric bikes to students to improve access to quality education across the province.
Speaking at a ceremony in Arifwala, the chief minister said the Punjab government is committed to transforming public schools into modern educational institutions that provide equal learning opportunities for students from all backgrounds.
She also announced the distribution of 100,000 laptops and 50,000 merit-based scholarships to support talented students and promote higher education.
Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government is investing Rs40 billion to upgrade government schools by constructing new classrooms and improving essential facilities, including furniture, clean drinking water, washrooms, and fans.
She added that science, technology, computer, information technology (IT), and artificial intelligence (AI) laboratories are being established in schools to equip students with modern skills and prepare them for future challenges.
The chief minister further announced plans to build 300 modern schools across Punjab and said the government is expanding the Green Electric Bus service to provide students with safe, affordable, and reliable transportation.
Referring to the ongoing monsoon season, Maryam Nawaz urged parents to keep children away from rivers, streams, drains, and other hazardous locations during heavy rains. She called for greater public vigilance following recent incidents that claimed the lives of several children.
