ISLAMABAD: The water level in Rawal Dam has risen significantly following heavy monsoon rainfall in the federal capital, prompting the Islamabad district administration to announce the opening of the dam’s spillways.
According to the district administration, the water level in Rawal Dam has reached 1,751.40 feet. In view of the rising level, the spillways will be opened at 6:00am on Wednesday, August 26.
The administration has directed Rescue 1122, police and all relevant departments to remain on high alert during the opening of the spillways and take all necessary precautionary measures beforehand.
Citizens have also been advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid going near streams, drains and low-lying areas, particularly during and after the release of water from the dam.
The district administration said relevant departments would continue monitoring the situation and take necessary measures to ensure public safety.
