PM directs NDMA to strengthen coordination with provinces during monsoon

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to further strengthen coordination with provincial governments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure an effective response during the ongoing monsoon season.

The directive came during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik at the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the authority’s preparedness to deal with monsoon-related emergencies across the country. He also updated him on measures being taken to enhance disaster response capacity and emergency preparedness.

The prime minister was informed about progress in making the national early warning system fully operational and ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Climate Change to improve forecasting and timely dissemination of weather-related alerts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of close coordination among all relevant institutions to ensure a swift and effective response to any emergency and minimize the impact of monsoon-related disasters.
