A British woman has been sentenced to seven years in prison after her negligence while playing mobile games led to the tragic death of her infant son.
According to Arab media reports, the incident occurred in February 2022 when Danielle Macey, 31, placed her seven-month-old son, Charlie Goodall, in a newly installed bathroom seat to fetch a towel. However, she became engrossed in a mobile game for 26 minutes, during which she also dozed off.
Charlie slipped from the seat into the tub and was later found unresponsive. Emergency services were called, and the baby was airlifted to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Hospital, but he could not be saved.
The court at Teesside Crown Court found Macey guilty of “gross negligence manslaughter.” Prosecutors revealed that her prolonged distraction and use of an unsafe shower seat directly contributed to the tragedy.
Macey admitted her mistake, telling a police officer, “This is all my fault. I killed my baby.” She also confessed to manslaughter and possession of cannabis the day before Charlie’s death.
This heartbreaking case has sparked a conversation about the dangers of distraction and the importance of parental responsibility.
