BOLIVIA: Researchers have reported the discovery of a tiny wild cat in the forests of Bolivia, a species that is smaller than an average domestic cat.
According to researchers, there was previously no recorded evidence of this particular cat, making the finding an important addition to knowledge about the region’s wildlife.
The small cat is reported to be around 18 inches long and weighs less than 1.5 kilograms. Its body has distinctive circular markings that resemble tiger-like patterns.
Local people reportedly know the animal as “Tlikayo”.
Researchers say the discovery represents a rare new finding in wild cat diversity, with the species being described as the first completely new cat species identified in more than a century.
The discovery also highlights the importance of protecting Bolivia’s forests, where little-known wildlife species may still survive. Continued research and conservation efforts are important for understanding and protecting such species and their natural habitats.
