ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), in coordination with Islamabad Police, has secured the conviction of a man for illegally possessing four protected snakes under the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act, 2024.
According to IWMB, the accused was presented before a magistrate, who imposed a fine of Rs300,000. After failing to pay the fine, the accused was sent to Adiala Jail.
The four confiscated snakes have been taken into the custody of the IWMB and shifted to its Rescue Centre, where they will receive proper care. Wildlife officials said the reptiles will be released into their natural habitat after a health and suitability assessment.
The IWMB reiterated that the illegal possession, capture and trade of protected wildlife are criminal offences under the Islamabad Nature Conservation and Wildlife Management Act, 2024, warning that strict legal action will continue against those involved in wildlife crimes.
