A computer operator working on a monthly salary of ₹13,000 at a state sports complex in Maharashtra has allegedly embezzled ₹21 crore. According to Indian media reports, the young man used the stolen money to buy luxury cars and a 4 BHK flat for his girlfriend.
The 23-year-old, Hershal Kumar Kashirsagar, was working on a contract basis at the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Divisional Sports Complex but is now on the run. Police have arrested his accomplices, Yeshoda Shetty and her husband BK Jeevan, for aiding him in the crime.
Investigations revealed that Hershal meticulously planned the embezzlement. He used an old letterhead of the sports complex to email the bank and request a change of the account’s linked email address. He created a new email account with a similar name, differing by just one character. This new email address was linked to the sports complex’s bank account, giving him access to OTPs and other financial details.
Between July 1 and December 7, Hershal allegedly transferred ₹21.6 crore to 13 different bank accounts. Police found that he spent the embezzled money on a BMW car, an SUV, and a BMW bike.
Hershal also bought a luxurious 4 BHK flat for his girlfriend near the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar airport and ordered diamond-studded glasses for her. Authorities suspect that more individuals may be involved in this large-scale fraud, and they are gathering documents related to the bank accounts used for the transfers.
Luxury vehicles have been seized, and raids are underway to arrest Hershal. The financial discrepancies were noticed by a sports department official, who filed a complaint, bringing the issue to light.
