THE HAGUE: An appeals court in The Hague has said Israel does not take sufficient account of the consequences for civilians when it carries out its attacks against Hamas militants. Israel has previously denied accusations of war crimes.
The Dutch government must stop all exports of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel over fears of a military offensive in Gaza, an appeals court ruled on Monday.
“It is undeniable that there is a clear risk that the exported F-35 parts are being used to commit serious violations of international humanitarian law,” Judge Bas Boele said in the ruling.
“Israel does not sufficiently consider the consequences for the civilian population when carrying out its attacks,” the court added.
Israel denies committing war crimes in Gaza.
The Dutch government must now comply with the order “within seven days of delivery of this judgment,” the appeals court in The Hague said.
However, the government said it would appeal the order to the Supreme Court of the Netherlands.
