FAISALABAD: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Faisalabad has highlighted the growing health and environmental risks of smog during an awareness seminar held at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF).
Dr. Tahir Abbas Sial, Deputy Director Environment, EPA Faisalabad, participated as the chief speaker at the seminar titled “Causes of Smog, Its Impact on Human Health and Preventive Measures.” The event was organized by GCUF in collaboration with the Green Youth Movement Club and the Department of Environmental Sciences.
During his technical talk, “Causes of Smog and Impacts of Urban Development,” Dr. Tahir Abbas Sial explained the major sources of smog and the environmental challenges linked to rapid and unplanned urban development.
He also briefed students and participants about measures being taken by EPA Faisalabad to control and reduce smog and other forms of air pollution. A practical demonstration of a smog gun was also given during the event to show how such equipment can support efforts to reduce airborne dust and pollution.
The seminar also focused on the serious impact of poor air quality on human health. Speakers discussed the need for stronger public awareness, preventive action and cooperation among government institutions, educational institutions and citizens to address the smog problem.
GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, Prof. Dr. Sabir Hussain, Focal Person Green Youth Movement Club, Prof. Dr. Tahira Yasmeen, Chairperson Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Dr. Nadeem Sohail, Director Student Affairs, and Dr. Shoaib Ahmad Malik, Associate Professor at Faisalabad Medical University, also addressed the gathering.
The speakers highlighted different environmental and health aspects of smog and stressed the importance of responsible urban development, pollution control and community participation.
The seminar concluded with an awareness walk, with participants calling for collective responsibility and practical preventive measures to improve air quality and protect public health.
The event provided students and young people an opportunity to better understand the causes of smog and their role in promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
