Poetry By Ali Rasheed
Welcome to Pakistan,
A sovereign state, yet lacking sovereignty’s sway,
A democratic facade, with democracy’s dance in disarray,
A religious identity, where religion itself is pushed away.
Where expression, choice, and life
Bend to the mighty’s delight.
Where the aristocracy feasts on the hardened flesh of the emaciated,
As the law bends like a wax doll, obeying the potent’s decree.
Where fathers are crushed in the wheels of corporate might,
And mothers dance to the tunes of a patriarchal night.
Where children are auctioned to the educational cartel’s grip,
Forcing them into a ruthless rat race, where dreams are stripped.
Shameful is the path that brought you where you are.
To endure beyond mere survival, learn from the past.
Beyond marching, beyond passing laws,
Remake how you got to where you are.
