GHIZER: Alkhidmat Islamic Microfinance Gilgit-Baltistan has provided small, hand-operated tractors to 31 flood-affected farmers in Ghizer district as part of its Farmer Rehabilitation Programme.
The initiative aims to help farmers restore agricultural activities and rebuild their livelihoods following flood-related losses.
The distribution ceremony was attended by President Alkhidmat Foundation Gilgit-Baltistan Haji Fareedullah Khan, Deputy Commissioner Ghizer Inayatullah, Secretary General of the Gilgit-Baltistan Caretaker Council Muhammad Salis, Regional Coordinator Alkhidmat Islamic Microfinance Gilgit-Baltistan Nizamuddin, Ghizer Caretaker Council President Muhammad Owais Advocate and District Coordinator Haji Bahadur, among others.
Speaking at the event, participants stressed that post-disaster recovery should go beyond emergency relief and include support for livelihoods and local economic activities.
Under the farmer rehabilitation initiative, affected farmers are being provided with agricultural resources to help them return to their fields and resume farming.
Such livelihood-based recovery measures can contribute to greater resilience in communities vulnerable to floods and other climate-related hazards. Restoring farmers’ ability to produce food and earn an income can also help affected families move toward greater economic stability after disasters.
Alkhidmat officials said efforts would continue to support affected families through practical and longer-term measures aimed at rehabilitation, self-reliance and economic recovery.
