GILGIT: The Forest Department has seized eight Kail timber sleepers during a nighttime operation against illegal timber transportation in Obash Jungle, Kargah Nala, via Kanda Duhlai.
The operation was conducted at around 12:30am by the Forest Department’s Raid Squad in coordination with field staff from Gulmika Check Post, following information about the illegal transportation of Kail timber sleepers.
During the operation, officials recovered eight Kail sleepers from the site. The suspected offenders escaped under the cover of darkness and difficult terrain.
Despite the challenging nighttime conditions and rugged landscape, Forest Department teams manually recovered and transported the seized timber for further legal action under the relevant forest laws.
The operation highlights continued efforts to prevent illegal timber activities and protect forest resources in the region.
Forests play an important role in protecting biodiversity, maintaining soil and water resources, storing carbon and supporting local ecosystems. Effective enforcement against illegal logging is therefore important for conserving forests and protecting natural resources for future generations.
