JAMSHORO, September 17: The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has intensified action against tyre pyrolysis plants following the Sindh government’s ban on such units across the province.
Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah directed the Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Department and SEPA to inspect tyre pyrolysis plants across the province and take legal action against unauthorised units and those violating prescribed emission standards.
Secretary Environment Faisal Ahmed Aqeel also directed Director General SEPA Ashiq Langa to speed up enforcement activities against plants operating in violation of government orders and environmental requirements.
Following these directives, a SEPA team in Jamshoro visited different locations to inspect tyre pyrolysis plants.
During the inspection, three tyre pyrolysis plants were found closed. The SEPA team handed copies of the government notification banning the plants to people present at the sites and issued strict instructions regarding compliance with the ban.
Officials warned that any violation of the government order would lead to legal action under the Sindh Environmental Protection Act, 2014.
Copies of the government notification were also displayed at the inspected plants to ensure that operators were clearly informed about the ban and applicable environmental requirements.
The action is part of Sindh’s efforts to control pollution linked to tyre processing and strengthen enforcement of environmental regulations across the province.
