BUNER: The World Food Programme (WFP) and the District Administration of Buner have inaugurated the newly rehabilitated District Disaster Management Unit (DDMU) to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate risk management in the district.
The facility was upgraded under the Integrated Climate Risk Management project, funded by the Green Climate Fund.
The improved DDMU will serve as a central coordination hub for disaster risk management in Buner. It is designed to support early warning and information management, coordination among government departments and response partners, and disaster response and emergency operations.
The facility will also support climate risk management efforts at the district level, helping authorities strengthen preparedness and coordination before and during climate-related emergencies.
As climate-related hazards pose growing risks to communities, stronger local disaster management systems can help authorities respond more effectively and protect lives and livelihoods.
The initiative highlights the importance of investing in preparedness, early warning and coordinated action as part of efforts to build climate-resilient communities.
