Rawalpindi: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Rawalpindi has intensified its crackdown on banned single-use plastic bags, conducting inspections across various commercial areas of the city as part of efforts to curb plastic pollution.
During the special enforcement campaign, EPA teams inspected shops and markets at different locations and confiscated 229 kilograms of banned plastic bags measuring less than 75 microns from violators.
The action is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enforce regulations restricting the use of thin plastic bags and promote environmentally responsible practices among businesses and consumers.
EPA officials emphasized that single-use plastic bags pose a serious environmental challenge, contributing to litter, clogged drainage systems and pollution of land and water resources. The department is therefore continuing inspections and enforcement actions against businesses found violating applicable plastic regulations.
The agency also urged shopkeepers and members of the public to reduce their dependence on disposable plastic bags and shift towards reusable and environmentally friendly alternatives.
EPA Rawalpindi said enforcement activities would continue to support the goal of making the city cleaner and reducing plastic pollution.
The department called on citizens to play their part in protecting the environment by adopting sustainable alternatives and saying no to single-use plastic bags.
