BAHAWALPUR: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Bahawalpur has intensified enforcement against non-compliant brick kilns as part of efforts to control air pollution and prepare for the upcoming smog season.
During a district-wide inspection drive, EPA Bahawalpur teams inspected 10 brick kilns to assess compliance with environmental regulations, particularly requirements related to the installation and operation of Zig-Zag technology.
Officials found all 10 inspected kilns to be in violation of environmental requirements. As a result, eight brick kilns were closed, while two were demolished for operating without converting to the required eco-friendly technology and violating environmental laws.
The enforcement action forms part of broader efforts to reduce emissions from brick kilns, which are considered significant sources of air pollution and black smoke when operated using outdated technologies.
EPA Bahawalpur officials reiterated their commitment to enforcing environmental laws and taking action against units contributing to air pollution.
The agency has urged brick kiln owners to comply with environmental standards and adopt cleaner technologies to help reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality across the district.
With the smog season approaching, environmental authorities are expected to intensify inspections and enforcement against industrial and other pollution sources.
