ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched a comprehensive initiative to address long-standing solid waste management challenges in the rural areas of Islamabad, particularly Zones IV and V.
The initiative has been undertaken under the vision of Federal Minister for Interior Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and the leadership of CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf. It aims to establish an integrated, technology-enabled system for the regular collection, transportation and environmentally responsible disposal of solid waste across the rural areas of the federal capital.
For years, many rural localities of Islamabad lacked a systematic mechanism for cleanliness and waste disposal compared with the city’s developed and central sectors. The new initiative seeks to bridge this gap by introducing an organized system covering 65 union councils.
CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf has made cleanliness and environmental sustainability in Islamabad’s rural areas a key priority and directed the development of a practical and integrated waste management mechanism to improve sanitation services for residents.
The system is being developed in collaboration with a Turkish waste management company, which will contribute international operational expertise, modern machinery and equipment, as well as technology-based monitoring solutions.
The CDA Board has approved the comprehensive solid waste disposal plan, paving the way for its phased implementation, with Zones IV and V selected for the first phase.
Under the initiative, rural localities including Bani Gala, Ghauri Town and surrounding areas falling within Zones IV and V will gradually receive structured and regular solid waste collection and disposal services.
The initiative is expected to strengthen environmental management in Islamabad’s rural areas, improve public cleanliness and introduce more efficient and sustainable waste disposal practices.
The move also marks an important step towards extending organized municipal and environmental services beyond Islamabad’s developed sectors and ensuring cleaner and healthier surroundings for rural communities.
