RAWALPINDI: Intermittent rain continued in Rawalpindi as the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) stepped up drainage operations on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt. (retd.) Nadeem Nasir.
WASA Managing Director Azizullah Khan is personally monitoring the rainwater drainage operation, while all field teams have been placed on high alert.
According to the MD, WASA disposal stations, dewatering sets and heavy machinery are fully operational, and teams are responding immediately wherever rainwater accumulates.
He said Nallah Lai is being monitored continuously to ensure timely action in case of any rise in water levels.
According to rainfall data shared by WASA, 145mm of rain was recorded in Golra, 134mm in Bokra, 107mm in Pirwadhai, 80mm in Gawalmandi, 76mm in New Katarian, 62mm in Kacheri, 48mm each in PMD and Shamsabad, and 10mm in Saidpur.
WASA field officers and relevant staff are present in their respective areas and continuously monitoring drainage operations, Azizullah Khan said.
He urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall and exercise caution in areas prone to water accumulation.
Parents were also advised to prevent children from approaching drains, flowing rainwater and open manholes during the rain.
The WASA MD further appealed to citizens not to throw garbage into drains and sewerage lines, stressing that keeping drainage channels clear is essential for maintaining an effective rainwater disposal system.
