RAWALPINDI — Security forces killed five suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in Pishin district of Balochistan on February 22, the military’s media wing said.
In a statement issued Monday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the operation was launched after receiving information about the presence of members of a group identified as “Fitna al Khwarij.” The military described the group as operating with external backing.
According to ISPR, troops surrounded the location and engaged the suspects in a firefight. During the exchange, one individual detonated an explosive device, while four others were killed by security forces.
Weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the site, the statement added. The suspects were alleged to have been involved in previous militant activities in the area, though specific incidents were not detailed.
A follow-up search operation is ongoing to clear the area and ensure no additional militants remain.
The military said counterterrorism efforts under the National Action Plan framework, including the campaign titled “Azm-e-Istehkam,” will continue in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
No security personnel casualties were reported.
