PESHAWAR: The National Highway Authority (NHA) organized a tree plantation campaign along the Indus Highway on Saturday to mark Pakistan’s 80th Independence Day, promoting environmental protection and the expansion of green cover.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Alam formally inaugurated the campaign by planting an Alstonia sapling.
As part of the initiative, 500 saplings of different species were planted at various locations along the highway.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Aftab Alam said the plantation campaign was aimed at contributing to a greener and healthier Pakistan while raising awareness about the importance of protecting the environment.
He urged citizens to actively participate in plantation activities and, importantly, ensure the proper care and protection of trees after planting.
The minister noted that expanding tree cover is essential for addressing environmental challenges, improving the surroundings and creating a healthier environment for future generations.
The ceremony was attended by Commissioner Kohat Syed Mutasim Ballah Shah, Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir, Conservator Forest Kohat Shahid Noor and Divisional Forest Officer Kohat Wahdat Zeeshan, along with other officials.
The campaign reflects growing efforts to combine Independence Day celebrations with environmental initiatives and promote the message that a greener Pakistan requires sustained public participation and long-term care of planted trees.
