Pak–China Innovation Agriculture Cooperation Centre inaugurated at Kasur Farms, Punjab

KASUR / ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have expanded their agricultural partnership with the launch of a new Pak–China Innovation Agriculture Cooperation Centre in Kasur, Punjab, aimed at introducing modern, technology-driven farming practices across Pakistan.

The centre has been inaugurated at Kasuri Farms by the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) and is expected to play a key role in agricultural research, technology transfer, and capacity building for farmers.

Officials said the facility will focus on smart and precision farming, agricultural biotechnology, high-quality seed development, farm mechanisation, and climate-resilient agricultural solutions. Special emphasis will be placed on farmer training programmes and applied research to ensure that modern techniques can be effectively adopted under local conditions.

The initiative builds upon earlier Pakistan–China collaboration in contract farming, particularly in chili and sesame cultivation projects, which helped improve yields, enhance quality, and connect farmers with reliable markets and technical support.

According to officials, the innovation centre will also serve as a bridge between academia, the private sector, and the farming community, encouraging joint research and the practical application of new agricultural technologies. Demonstration farms and pilot projects will allow farmers to observe and test advanced methods before adopting them on a wider scale.

They added that the project aligns with Pakistan’s efforts to modernise its agriculture sector, improve food security, and address the challenges posed by climate change. Enhanced cooperation with China is seen as a strategic step toward boosting productivity, increasing rural incomes, and strengthening sustainable agricultural development.

The launch of the centre highlights the growing scope of Pakistan–China cooperation, extending beyond traditional infrastructure projects to include agriculture as a priority sector for innovation and long-term economic growth.
