COMSATS University’s Frontiers in Information Technology conference concludes in Islamabad

Islamabad: The 22nd International Conference on Frontiers in Information Technology (FIT 2025), organized by COMSATS University Islamabad, concluded on Monday at the COMSTECH Secretariat after two days of academic deliberations on emerging trends in information and communication technologies.

The Frontiers in Information Technology conference brought together researchers, academics, and technology professionals from across the world to discuss developments in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Internet of Things applications, smart cities, and sustainable computing, within the broader context of digital transformation and innovation.

Frontiers in Information Technology sees record research submissions

FIT 2025 received 627 research paper submissions from 32 countries, marking the highest number of submissions in the two-decade history of the Frontiers in Information Technology conference. After a peer-review process, 99 papers were accepted and presented across eleven technical tracks and nineteen sessions, resulting in an acceptance rate of approximately 15 percent.

Focus on research, industry, and policy linkages

Speaking at the closing session of Frontiers in Information Technology, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Science and Technology Rizwan Ahmed Sheikh said that stronger coordination between academic research, industry, and public policy was essential to ensure that research outcomes lead to practical applications, startups, patents, and solutions with socio-economic relevance.

Industry 5.0 and emerging technologies

Rector COMSATS University Islamabad Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, while addressing participants at Frontiers in Information Technology, emphasized the growing importance of quantum technologies and next-generation industrial models. He said the university plans to prepare students for Industry 5.0 through a structured skills framework that includes coding, cybersecurity, cloud computing, co-intelligence, creativity, and communication across academic disciplines.

International participation at Frontiers in Information Technology

The Frontiers in Information Technology conference featured keynote and invited talks by national and international experts, including Prof. Shoab A. Khan of Sir Syed CASE Institute of Technology and Prof. Chris Nugent from Ulster University, Ireland. Researchers and professionals from the United States, United Kingdom, China, Japan, Ireland, France, Hong Kong, and Australia participated in technical sessions.

Diplomatic representatives, industry leaders, and academics also attended various sessions, where discussions focused on research collaboration, innovation ecosystems, and future directions in information technology.

Conference conclusion

The Frontiers in Information Technology conference concluded with the presentation of best paper awards recognizing selected research contributions. Organizers stated that the forum provided opportunities for academic exchange, international collaboration, and discussion on emerging technologies relevant to Pakistan and the global technology landscape.
