BAJAUR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Forest Department has achieved a major milestone in its afforestation efforts as the Shawri Bare-Root Nursery in Bajaur Forest Division successfully produced thousands of healthy, high-quality saplings under the provincial government’s Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Vision.
The initiative is being implemented under the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi and the directions of Adviser to the Chief Minister on Forests, Environment and Wildlife, Pir Musawir Khan, to promote tree plantation, forest conservation, and environmental restoration across the province.
Spread over one hectare, the departmental nursery has produced healthy saplings of Poplar, Willow, Robinia, Mulberry, Ailanthus, and Bakain through modern nursery management practices and effective planning.
These saplings will be planted during the upcoming spring season under afforestation and farm forestry programmes to expand forest cover across the province. The initiative is also expected to help reduce the impacts of climate change, absorb carbon emissions, protect biodiversity, prevent soil erosion, and improve water conservation.
Officials said the Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Vision aims to make the province greener, more environmentally friendly, and more resilient to climate change. Under the leadership of Pir Musawir Khan, the Forest Department is also promoting sustainable forest management, farm forestry, public participation, and community-based environmental development.
The successful performance of the Shawri Nursery reflects the department’s commitment to producing quality planting material and restoring forest resources through scientific and sustainable practices for a greener future.
