In a major push for video calling capabilities, WhatsApp has announced that users can now watch videos even on their phones. This improves the screen sharing functionality that was launched in August last year.
The maximum number of participants in a WhatsApp video call reaches 32 on all devices.
Previously, the highest number of participants for Windows and macOS users was eight, and thirty-two for mobile users.
This compares WhatsApp to Apple’s FaceTime, which can accommodate up to 32 users.
Speaker focus, a new focus feature, ensures that the person speaking in the video chat is visible by automatically mirroring it on the screen.
WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has released the Meta Low Bitrate (MLow) codec to improve phone reliability, especially on older devices or in weak network conditions.
With 10% less computational complexity than its predecessor, Opus, MLow requires twice the audio quality.
This codec, which is already used in Instagram and Messenger phones, is rolled out to WhatsApp to improve the calling experience on the meta-platform.
According to WhatsApp, all eligible users will be able to access this update in the coming weeks.
Transfer conversations between devices
WhatsApp is rumored to be rolling out a new feature that will make it easier to transfer chat history between devices without relying on Google Drive backups.
Scan the QR code in the application settings to transfer chat history. This feature is found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.6 release.
This development shows that WhatsApp is still working to facilitate the migration of the platform.
With the release of this feature, users no longer need to manually back up data to Google Drive or use a physical cable to transfer chat history between iOS and Android devices.
Although there is still no exact information on the implementation of this feature for universal transfer, it seems to provide a more convenient and user-friendly experience for customers, regardless of the operating system on the device.
With the limitations of previous Android versions, WhatsApp now allows users to transfer their chat history between iOS and Android devices through other parts of the application.
A new feature that comprehensively coordinates the migration process across several systems promises to improve this ability.
WhatsApp features to improve user experience and streamline data transfer procedures appear to be included in the beta version, although the release date and features of that version are not yet known.
