According to an international news agency, a research team from China’s Shanghai Jiao Tong University has developed a 6-legged guiding robot for the blind. This 6-legged robot will help solve the shortage of guide dogs in the country.

Gao Feng, a professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, said in a press release on the university’s official website that he believes robots will become “two eyes” for the blind.

According to the China Association of the Blind, there are about 7.31 million blind people in the country. Due to rising costs and long training courses, the number of guide dogs nationwide is over 400. This means that there is only one guide dog for every 40,000 blind people in China.
